Manatee High (Bradenton, Fla.) running back Ben Axon committed to Clemson on Tuesday for the ’09 class.

The 6-foot-1, 196-pound Axon, whom Rivals rates as a four-star, scampered for over 1,000 yards and scored 16 touchdowns last season. On the receiving end, he caught 38 passes and scored one touchdown.

Axon chose Clemson over Florida State, South Carolina, South Florida and West Virginia. Brad Scott is credited as the primary.

COMMENTARY: Clemson has more top running backs playing or committed to them than it has had in years. Axon joins four-star athlete Larry Raper and three-star running back Roderick McDowell for the ’09 class. This comes after the signings of top backs Andre Ellington and Jamie Harper (both four stars) for the ’08 class.
