To date, the Clemson Tigers' Michael Wade hasn't exactly done much as a quarterback. In fact, many don't even seem to realize that he's in competition for the position. The former three-star 2006 recruit from Riverside High School in Greer, S.C., passed for over 1,300 yards and rushed for 600-plus as a junior in high school, but he hardly got any press as a QB until recently. Perhaps that had something to do with the fact that he was becoming better known for holding the ball on kicks and even playing some defense. Regardless, his performance is now beginning to cause some people to remember that he is in fact a quarterback -- one whose chances of getting time at the position this year are better than you may think.

In fact, after a recent Saturday scrimmage in spring ball, head coach Dabo Swinney reinforced that notion, citing that "People better not count out Michael Wade; he had an outstanding day."

One of the outstanding things this dual-threat quarterback did was connect on a 60-yard pass to Brandon Ford for a touchdown during the scrimmage. He ended things completing 9-of-12 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns, by far the best day that any of the quarterbacks in the competition -- Willy Korn and Kyle Parker are the others -- were able to come through with.

"From what I've been told and from the first few days of practice, I've gotten every opportunity that Willy and Kyle have gotten," Wade said earlier in spring ball. "That's all I wanted from the very beginning, just a chance to compete."

Well, Wade is getting his chance and making the most of it. Though he may not look as polished of a passer as his two competitors, the stats are beginning to speak for themselves. What's more, he's smart and tough.

Don't count Wade out.
