This time of year in college football, there's little to write about when it comes to the upcoming season. So, recruiting often becomes the rave. Such is the case with the Clemson Tigers, obviously barring a desire to speak of the quarterback situation.

Not this time. Along with that, let's talk about the four-star athlete that they've received a solid verbal commitment from. His name is Joe Craig.

The Tigers love versatile performers who can help them in a variety of ways (C.J. Spiller, for example). Of course, any comparison to an athlete like him is unfair, as players like Spiller only come around once in a while. Still, the statistics seem to indicate that Craig can do it all.

While playing for Gaffney High School in Gaffney, S.C., as a junior, he rushed for 408 yards and seven touchdowns, completed 22 passes for 263 yards and a TD, and caught 16 balls for 228 yards and three more scores. On top of that, he runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds and reports a vertical leap of 34 inches.

It's unlikely that Craig will play quarterback for the Tigers. However, he's shown the ability to both run and catch the ball, so the Tigers should have no problem figuring out a spot for him. Thus, he may end up being a very valuable part of Clemson's 2010 recruiting class. What's more, he's hardly the only multi-skilled player whom the Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney have their sights set on.

In other words, stay tuned. More to come.
