While Tommy Bowden and his coaching staff recruited a laundry list of star-studded talent including #1 All-purpose back C.J. Spiller, USA Today First Team All-American Ricky Sapp, and Parade All-Americans Jamie Cumbie and Richard Jackson, another kid unexpectedly stood out from the rest in Bowden's eyes. His name is Jacoby Ford.

“He will be the fastest guy on the team so hopefully we can take advantage of that," Bowden said about Ford's performance early in the Tiger's spring training.

Describing Ford as fast is an understatement. Last year, Ford clocked a ridiculous 10.21 100 meter dash time at Fork Union Military Academy.

Ford has also proved his hands are just as quick as his feet. During the 2005 season Ford had 7 returns for touchdowns (four punts and three kickoffs), pulled down 57 receptions for 1,254 yards and 9 touchdowns, and rushed for 306 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries – a 25.5 yards per carry average.

Although the incoming freshman reminds Clemson coaches of former Tiger and current Chicago Bear, Airese Currie (Clemson receiver from 2002-04 and All-ACC track sprinter), Ford possesses a unique type of athleticism.

"He isn't a track guy where you say just go deep. He can run reverses, make guys miss, accelerate and change direction," said Bowden, who expects Ford to contribute early in the season. “He would be a guy that could make some impact."
