Much-maligned ex-Clemson quarterback Will Proctor is now a pro football player. The Florida native is a member of the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes. Not too many Clemson fans would have guessed his playing days would have continued after a disappointing senior campaign -- Proctor's only year as a starter.

Word is that Proctor was impressive in the Alouttes' preseason. His highlights include completing 7-of-8 passes for 84 yards in one game and scrambling for 21 yards in another preseason contest. Of course, statistics can be deceiving -- Proctor left Clemson as the Tigers' career leader in passing efficiency.

Proctor is listed as a backup quarterback behind Anthony Calvillo, formerly of Utah State, who's a veteran and led the Alouettes to the 2002 Grey Cup and was named MVP of the game. In 2004, he became the fourth quarterback in CFL history to pass for more than 6,000 yards in a single season, joining Doug Flutie, David Archer and Kent Austin.

Sounds like some stiff competition for Proctor, but then again making the team was probably quite an accomplishment. One thing the former Tiger does have going for him is the fact that Calvillo is 35 years old and should be at the end of his career.

Interestingly enough, as of now Proctor is one of only two former Clemson players on CFL rosters for 2007. Former Clemson standout defensive end Rahim Abdullah is in his sixth year in the league, his first with the Edmonton Eskimos. Ex-Clemson quarterback Nealon Greene is currently a free agent. Greene, a former fan favorite in Death Valley, has thrown for 14,518 yards and 78 touchdowns in his nine CFL seasons.

With some hard work and a little luck, maybe Proctor can follow Greene's footsteps and have a successful career in Canada. The question is, Will anyone notice?
