Despite a putrid finish to the 2006 season, Clemson has announced that it has broken the record for season tickets sales (57,991). The old record of 57,625 was set prior to the 1988 season, and the most sold since Tommy Bowden has been coaching the Tigers was 57,506 in 2001.

One impressive note about the season tickets is that although the Tigers do have seven home games, hated rival South Carolina does not visit Death Valley in 2007. The schedule does, however, feature Florida State, Virginia Tech and Boston College.

A big factor could be the excitement generated by running backs James Davis and C.J. Spiller. Clemson fans have been treated to some good RBs in their day, but it has been some time since the team has possessed two backs as good as Davis and Spiller at the same time. Both are a threat to score at any time and should provide many highlights in '07.

Many fans are eager to see highly touted quarterback Willy Korn, a local youngster who has reached star-like status without taking a single snap yet. If Korn is half as good as he's supposed to be, he will help pack the seats. Although he is scheduled to start the year as the backup, most fans believe the signal caller will see significant action before too long.

The West Endzone project is likely a factor, too. The renovation of Death Valley has caused a strong buzz throughout the campus and the community. Some supporters probably are more interested in season ticket packages now than before the project was undertaken.

Of course, many Tiger fans are going to show up no matter what. Most of them will be there to cheer on Clemson through the good times and the bad. After all, Clemson is a great place to tailgate, and the game-day experience is wonderful. Rest assured, Death Valley will be rocking in '07.
