Navy invaded South Bend, Indiana and outlasted the hapless Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in three overtimes, 46-44.

The last time the Midshipmen defeated Notre Dame was in 1963. Roger Staubach was their quarterback and he walked away with the Heisman Trophy that season.

Navy QB Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada found Reggie Campbell from 25 yards out for a touchdown on the first play of the third overtime, and then connected with him again for 2 points on the mandatory 2-point conversion attempt. Travis Thomas answered with a 5-yard TD run for the Irish, but he was stopped on the 2-point conversion attempt following a pass interference call that gave ND a second chance at the tie.

Commentary: The loss to Navy added serious insult to injury for Notre Dame fans throughouth the country. It's difficult to imagine the Irish sinking any lower this year, but next week they'll take on a very good Air Force team, and Notre Dame has not lost to two service academy teams in the same season since 1944.
