It was the lowest-ranked team in the ACC's Atlantic Division standings upsetting the division's top team, as the Terrapins defeated Boston College 42-35 on a cold Saturday night in College Park. With the sole exception of 9:37 into the third quarter when Heisman candidate Matt Ryan connected with Kevin Challenger for a touchdown, Maryland held a lead over the 8th-ranked Eagles the entire game.

While Ryan's numbers looked strong, going 33-of-56 for 421 yards and three touchdowns against two picks, sophomore Terp quarterback Chris Turner was much more efficient, as he went 21-of-27 for 337 yards with three touchdowns and no picks. Unlike Boston College, Maryland's offense was much more balanced as running back Lance Ball scampered for 109 yards on 32 touches and one score, which complemented Turner's arm.

Boston College's top-ranked rushing defense, which allowed an average of 58 yards a game going in, gave up a season-high 135 ground yards to a Terrapin offense that didn't even have its top rusher (Keon Lattimore, hamstring injury), while the Maryland defense logged in four sacks and countless pressures on Ryan.

Commentary: Although it's a very safe bet that Boston College's hopes of getting back into the National title picture are gone, the Eagles still have a very strong chance of winning the Atlantic Division and playing in the ACC title game. All the cards are on the table next week for Boston College, as they travel to Clemson in an elimination match where the winner will be the Atlantic champ and go on to play for all the ACC's marbles in Jacksonville on December 1.
