Legendary Cornhusker coach and interim athletic director Tom Osborne insists Thursday he has not come to a decision regarding the fate of embattled coach Bill Callahan.

"We want to make sure we've had adequate input from everybody," Osborne states. "We've got seven or eight days before the Colorado game. That's why it would be foolish to make a decision before all the data is in."

Once a proud national power, the Cornhuskers currently have the lowest-ranked defense in the Big XII (112th nationally), have a 5-6 record and must beat Colorado next Friday to become bowl-eligible.

Commentary: Smart athletic directors do wait until the end of the season to pull the trigger or not unless the team is in very dire consequences like Southern Methodist. However, given the Huskers are one game away from finishing the season, chances are that the decision is indeed made but it's just a matter of the formal announcement. Although its results have been mild-to-mediocre over the past few years and many losing programs would kill for their records, Nebraska has a proud National championship reputation to uphold. And for the program to get that back they must take necessary steps to break through the mediocrity. In light of this, it's highly doubtful that Callahan saves his job.
