Ohio State running back Chris Wells accounted for both Buckeye touchdowns today in a 14-3 win over the Michigan Wolverines on a cold, rainy afternoon in Ann Arbor. The victory gave the Buckeyes the Big Ten title and an automatic berth in the Rose Bowl Game on January 1.

Wells racked up 220 yards on 39 carries including a 62-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that effectively put the game out of reach from the punchless Michigan offense. The Wolverines were hampered by injuries to Chade Henne and Mike Hart, slowing both players down considerably. Star receiver Mario Manningham also dropped several passes that crippled Michigan drives before they could gain momentum.

Commentary: Ohio State still has a shot at playing in the national championship game, if a perfect storm of losses occur among teams still ranked ahead of them. Lloyd Carr will likely announce that he is retiring ... look for him to take an administrative job in the UM athletic department. Rose Bowl Game officials are elated the Buckeyes are heading to Pasadena (with fingers crossed for the next two weeks ...).
