Alabama offensive coordinator Major Applewhite is being considered by the Texas Longhorns for an assistant coaching position.

One vacancy is running backs coach, which was Ken Rucker's until he accepted the newly created position of Director of High School Relations and Player Development.

The 29-year-old Applewhite was the Longhorns' starting quarterback in the late 1990s and still holds the school record of career passing yards with 8,353.

Commentary: On one hand, it would be rather strange if Applewhite is considering this position, which is a downgrade from his current one of offensive coordinator. However, he is a Texas alumnus, so this may very well be the only reason for a move back to Austin.
