This past weekend was not one that Pitt head football coach Dave Wannstedt will remember fondly.

On Saturday, receivers coach Aubrey Hill announced that he was leaving to join the coaching staff at Miami (his home town).

On Monday, top wide receiver recruit A.J. Alexander, out of Altoona, thought better of the verbal commitment he made to the Panthers after previously backing out of a similar pledge to Florida State. Hill would have been his position coach.

Finally, 6-foot-6, 225-pound QB Terrell Pryor of Jeannette, Pa., listed as the nation's top recruit by most scouting services, quashed rumors that had bubbled up after he was seen at a Pitt-Georgetown basketball game over the weekend.

"Pitt's out, period," Pryor said. "I won't go there, for sure."

Commentary: : Hill was the fourth Wannstedt assistant to leave since the end of the 2007 season.

"When you're a team that is improving, and coming off a big win and recruiting better than you have in 50 years, -- I look at it as a compliment," Wannstedt said.

Maybe, but the offseason game of coaching musical chairs is already slowing down, and the Panthers have a lot of vacancies to fill.
