Clint Bowen has been tapped as Kansas' sole defensive coordinator. The last two seasons, Bowen was co-defensive coordinator with Bill Young, who was hired by Randy Shannon of Miami last week.

"Clint has played a big role in the success of our defense," coach Mark Mangino said. "He has great rapport with the players and is an outstanding teacher of schemes and fundamentals. There is no doubt Clint will continue to develop our defense."

Bowen was a Jayhawks defensive back from 1992-93 and was a grad assistant for the team in 1998.

Commentary: Kansas now has one of its own as defensive coordinator. Should he be in for the long haul, it's possible Bowen is being positioned to take over for Mangino, who will have tempting offers from other schools and NFL teams if Kansas repeats its raging success next season.
