New Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini signed a contract valued at $1.1 million per year for five seasons with the school.

"We knew all along that this contract would take until at least mid-January to get everything done," athletic director Tom Osborne said. "We're very pleased with the process. There were no protracted negotiations and no agents. Everything went smoothly."

Pelini will earn more in bonuses should he reach certain goals. Specifically, an additional $150,000 if the Huskers win the Big 12 North title, $250,000 if the team wins the conference title, $150,000 for appearing in the national championship game and another $250,000 for winning it.

If these objectives are met and classroom goals are reached, it would put Pelini well over the $2 million mark.

Commentary: The anticipation of what the college football powerhouse was going to pay Pelini is now finally over. The salary given to Pelini can be considered low when you consider the money flowing through Lincoln, but it's a respectable contract for a first-time head coach.
