It hasn't helped the reputation of the West Virginia football program that two of the NFL's most egregious bad actors -- Chris Henry and Adam "Pacman" Jones -- are former Mountaineers who began misbehaving in Morgantown.

On his watch, evidently, new coach Bill Stewart plans to nip any shenanigans in the bud (no pun intended).

After current WVU players John Holmes, Ed Collington and James Ingram were charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute by the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department, Stewart announced Thursday that the trio had been "dismissed from all aspects of the West Virginia football family."

Holmes is -- or was -- a junior linebacker, Collington a junior running back and Ingram a sophomore defensive lineman.

In his announcement, Stewart talked about the Mountaineers' stunning victory over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, crediting it "not to coaching, but character.

"We were in the desert, had casinos over here, dance halls over there. Pockets full of money," Stewart said. "We had 125 young men. Eight days, seven nights -- one curfew bust."

Holmes, Ingram and Collington were pulled over by a sheriff's deputy who found individual wrapped bags on pot in the back seat. Later, more was found in Ingram's apartment.

Commentary: These were not stars, but all three figured into West Virginia's plans for next season.

Collington, who rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns in 2007, was in the mix to be the top backup to Noel Devine at tailback after Steve Slaton declared for the NFL draft. Holmes played in all 13 games last season and posted 39 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Ingram played the least, getting credit for just two tackles.
