University of Cincinnati guard Trevor Canfield, a starter in 12 games as a junior, was suspended from the team after being charged with felonious assault on Sunday.

Bearcats coach Brian Kelly said Canfield would be suspended "pending the conclusion of the legal process."

According to several Cincinnati news outlets, Canfield -- a 6-foot-5, 295-pounder -- was accused of hitting another man over the head with a glass bottle.

Commentary: Ironically, Canfield's major is "criminal justice." Now, that's what his football career might hinge on. Canfield, from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, is considered to have NFL potential.
