Auburn Tigers fullback Carl Stewart only accumulated 49 yards on the ground over the course of 20 carries during the 2007-08 season. That said, his worth can only really be ascertained, as is the case with most fullbacks, by the little things that they do.

Said another way, Stewart can catch passes very well and is a solid lead blocker. And when it comes to the NFL, fullbacks generally aren’t expected to do much in the line of running the ball, beyond being a change of pace kind of guy.

So all that blocking and pass receiving may just help Stewart out. But first, the stats:

2007: As was previously mentioned, Stewart rushed for 49 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. He also managed to accumulate 214 yards receiving off of 14 catches.

2006: Stewart rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries. Further, he managed 13 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns.

2005: Stewart rushed 42 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns. He also pulled in six receptions for 60 yards.

2004: Stewart carried the ball 39 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also accrued six catches for 99 yards.

NFL Draft Prediction: Again, the stats, as they relate to Stewart, aren’t necessarily overly impressive. Neither is his size of 6-foot-2, 229 pounds. But his athleticism is.

Namely, Stewart did very well at the NFL Combine by benching 225 lbs. 30 times. Further, he just got done running the 40 yard dash in 4.54 seconds on Auburn’s Pro Day, and included a very strong long jump of 39.5 inches for good measure.

Thus, Stewart, who is currently ranked 4th on Scout’s fullbacks list, is starting to make some waves despite having not touched the ball all that much. Is that appropriate? Yes. Carl Stewart will be a very athletic fullback at the next level. He’s got a good work ethic.

And that should translate to him being a 5th or 6th round selection.
