Harris Gaston is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound outside linebacker from Bessemer Academy in Alabama. Luckily for Auburn and defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads, he’s also a Tigers kind of guy.

As of Tuesday, anyway. You see, Gaston has verbally committed to play for Auburn in 2009.

By itself, this represents a big-time pickup for head coach Tommy Tuberville and the gang, already the fourth of the offseason. Last season Gaston -- who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds -- accumulated 112 tackles, 11 sacks, and five interceptions. He’s certainly proven he can be productive on the high school gridiron, then. Thus, it’s no surprise that the Tigers weren’t the only ones interested, as Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Alabama were all after him as well.

But with this pickup, more good news could soon be on the way. You see, Brandon Heavens, a top Alabama high school athlete/wide receiver prospect with 4.43 speed, was a high school teammate of Gaston’s. He’s also high on Auburn’s radar, and if you’ve watched recruiting over the years, then you know high school teammates often choose to go to school together.

Could that be the case with Gaston and Heavens?

Heavens managed 730 yards rushing, 1,236 receiving, 585 on kickoff returns, and 568 on punt returns last season in high school. Thus, he would be a huge pickup for the club and has "spread offense" written all over him.

Things are starting off very well on the 2009 recruiting trail for the Tigers, that's for sure.
