The early signing day that had won out with SEC coaches was voted down by league president's and athletic directors on Friday.

Commentary: There were several issues taken with the proposal, one that would have allowed prospects to sign on the Monday before the start of the contact period on Dec. 1 provided that they had not taken an official visit. In the end, the main issue was that there were simply too many questions left unanswered for the proposal to be accepted at this juncture.

"I wouldn't say we were in disfavor of it as much as we just had too many questions about it," said David Williams, Vanderbilt's vice chancellor for university affairs and athletics.

Perhaps with some more conversation, then, this one could still make it at a later date. However, for now the early signing day is out.
