Starting today, expect to see a weekly SEC column here at RealFootball365.com. We’re going to call these columns "SEC Fastball," and they’ll generally encompass five worthy pieces of information regarding the past week’s conference play and more in a fast-paced format.

With the intro out of the way, let's get to it ...

1. Tim Tebow is a rare talent: The Florida Gators only led the Miami Hurricanes 9-3 at the half on Saturday night. The reason? The Hurricanes' defense, which is terrific, applied pressure on last year’s Heisman Trophy winner at each and every turn. As has become expected of him, though, Tebow came through with Heisman-caliber numbers (21-of-35 passing for 256 yards and two touchdowns, 13 rushes for 55 yards) in a 26-3 victory.

Tebow's play makes one think back to ex-BYU star Steve Young; not too shabby, eh?

2. Alabama, in its 20-6 Week 2 win, didn’t just take Tulane lightly: First of all, it would seem important to remember that a win’s a win. Still, the reason why the game was closer than expected wasn’t entirely because the Tide took its counterpart for granted.

The Tulane defense kept the Alabama 'O' off balance for most of the game; remember, though, that Hurricane Gustav may have fed the Green Wave emotionally. In addition, Tulane might just be a little better than we thought.

Even more noteworthy was the fact that Andre Smith and Marlon Davis were missing from the Tide’s offensive line. Both are high-impact blockers.

3. How about Auburn’s Chris Todd? If you saw the Tigers’ dismal passing performance against Louisiana-Monroe in Week 1, you may not have expected what Todd dished out on Saturday. Let’s put it this way: Southern Mississippi saw a different Tiger offense and that was in a large part thanks to Todd, who's been battling for playing time with Kodi Burns. Todd made a case for himself by hitting on 21-of-31 throws for 248 yards.

4. Congratulations are in order for Vanderbilt, which knocked off Steve Spurrier-led South Carolina for the second straight time. Quarterback Chris Nickson and the gang look more than solid this season.

Interestingly, Spurrier’s quarterbacks once again are not. He’s one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game; nevertheless, it’s getting harder to ignore his team’s poor QB play.

5. While new Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt’s bunch lost to Jim Grobe’s Wake Forest team, 30-28, Nutt clearly has his squad going in the right direction. The way Ole Miss fought against a solid ACC team says a lot.

Expect to see real strides at Mississippi this season.
