Folsom makes people hang their heads and cry. Although Johnny Cash’s legendary song refers to California’s Folsom Prison, the line also applies to visitors at Colorado’s Folsom Field. For the second straight year, the Buffaloes engineered a major upset at their home stadium.

Commentary: The Buffaloes protect their home turf. Last week, Colorado defeated No. 21 West Virginia 17-14 in overtime and improved its record to 3-0 for the first time since 2004. The previous year, the Buffaloes upended third-ranked Oklahoma 27-24 at Folsom Field.

Since arriving in Boulder three years ago from Boise State, Dan Hawkins has rebuilt Colorado into a contender. Led by his son, sophomore quarterback Cody Hawkins, the Buffs can run the table in nonconference action with a road victory over Florida State this Saturday.

Hawkins staked the Buffaloes to a 14-0 first-quarter lead against the Mountaineers with two touchdown passes. He finished the game with 179 passing yards, completing 22 of 33 attempts.

Next season, Hawkins and Kansas' Todd Reesing will battle for quarterback supremacy in the Big XII North. Missouri’s Chase Daniel and Nebraska’s Joe Ganz complete their eligibility this year, and Kansas State’s Josh Freeman may opt to leave the Wildcats a year early for the NFL.

Another impressive performer for Colorado is Aric Goodman, whose clutch overtime kick earned him Big XII Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Coach Hawkins also awarded the transfer from Wyoming, who has converted three of his four field goal tries and all 11 PATs this season, a football scholarship after the victory over West Virginia.

Injury Report: The Buffaloes report no new injuries for their encounter with the Seminoles.
