Many teams in the conference were still playing the soft part of their schedule this week as the conference posted a 9-2 record for the weekend. The best game of the week was the thrilling matchup between Clemson and Georgia Tech on Thursday night that ended with a 30-27 Yellow Jacket victory. The only other surprise was the scare that Jacksonville State put into the Seminoles on Saturday night. Consequently there was very little movement in the conference power rankings this week.

1. Virginia Tech 1-1 (0-0) beat Marshall 52-10

Freshmen Ryan Williams and David Wilson both topped 160 yards on the ground as the Hokies rolled over Marshall. This was the team's 31st straight non-conference home victory. That streak may come to an end this week.

Next game: vs. #22 Nebraska (9-19)

2. Georgia Tech 2-0 (1-0) beat Clemson 30-27

The Yellow Jackets squandered a 24 point lead in the 2nd half but managed to squeak out a 3 point victory over Clemson. They have another Thursday night ACC showdown this week.

3. UNC 2-0 (0-0) beat UConn 12-10

The Tar Heels got a gift from UConn offensive lineman Dan Ryan who was called for holding DE Robert Quinn in the endzone in the closing minutes of the game. The resulting safety gave UNC the victory. The Tar Heel defense held the Huskies to 196 yards of offense.

Next game: vs. East Carolina (9-19)

4. Miami 1-0 (1-0) was idle

The Hurricanes are gearing up for their Thursday night showdown with Georgia Tech in a battle of up and coming ACC powers.

6. Clemson 1-1 (0-1) lost to Georgia Tech 30-27

Clemson showed real grit in erasing a 24 point deficit to take a lead over Georgia Tech early in the fourth quarter. But they couldn't stop the Yellow Jackets when it counted. Kyle Parker has definitely cemented his standing as the Tigers starting quarterback.

Next game: vs. Boston College (9-19)

7. NC State 1-1 (0-0) beat Murray State 65-7

Russell Wilson threw for 4 touchdowns as the Wolfpack rolled over Murray State. This was the most points scored by a Tom O'Brien coached team in his 10 years as a head coach.

Next game: vs. Gardner-Webb (9-19)

8. Boston College 2-0 (0-0) beat Kent State 34-7

The Eagles two-headed quarterback attack continued to be effective as both Justin Tuggle and David Shinskie threw touchdown passes in the game. They get their first real test this weekend when they travel to Death Valley to face Clemson.

Next game: @ Clemson (9-19)

9. Wake Forest 1-1 (0-0) beat Stanford 24-17

11. Maryland 1-1 (0-0) beat James Madison 38-35 in overtime

Maryland continued to struggle against lesser opponents as they needed overtime to defeat James Madison. This team may be in trouble when they start conference play.

Next game: vs. Middle Tennessee State (9-19)

12. Virginia 0-2 (0-0) lost to TCU 30-14

The Cavaliers spread offense managed only 177 yards and never took a snap in the red zone. The clock is ticking on Al Groh's future in Charlottesville.
