The Salisbury football team found itself playing a game in Ohio for the 1st time in 27 years, but the visit to the Buckeye state did not end with a win as the Gulls lost 28-7 Division II Lake Erie College this past Saturday at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

SU (3-3, 1-0 Atlantic Central Football Conference) had trouble offensively as the Lake Erie Storm (5-3) held the Sea Gulls to just 207 total yards. Salisbury scored its only TD when sophomore slot back Tyler Curley (Ellicott City, Md.) caught a 39 yd pass from junior QB Sean Kelly (Fallston, Md.) in the 3rd period. The score was the Gulls longest drive of the contest (eight plays for 75 yards).

SU were paced by sophomore slot back Randal Smedley (Frederick, Md.), who had a team-high 70 yards on 14 carries. Junior slot back Bryan Woolson (White Hall, Md.) had 23 yards rushing with senior slot back Valdase Morris (SU) caught four passes for 33 yards. Kelly finished the game 10-for-20 for 96 yards in the air.

The Salisbury defense was led by senior defensive back Antoine Cuff (Landover, Md.), with a team high eight tackles. Junior linebacker Justin Chura (Lothian, Md.) and senior defensive back Brandon Hudson (Salisbury, Md.) each with seven tackles while sophomore defensive back Ricky Cassidy (Edgewater, Md.) had six.

On a muddy field used for High School football the night before, SU came out of the gates slow as the Gulls struggled to move the ball and found themselves down by 3 TD's, 21-0, after just one period. Lake Erie three big touchdowns were runs, including a 26 and a 48-yarder by QB Sean Bedevelski. The Storm added a TD late in the 1st half to bring the deficit to four touchdowns by halftime. The 28 points scored were the most points given up before the half by an Salisbury defense since in 4 seasons.

The two mud soaked squads were score less in the 3rd quarter but The Gulls would score on Curley's TD run with 14:51 remaining in the 4th. SU's defense played well in the second half with the squad allowing only 82 yards. Salisbury's D has only given up points in the fourth quarter (in two games this season) holding a 67-21 advantage in the final stanza.

The Storm's senior QB Sean Bedevelski, who used 10 carries to pick up 127 yards and two scores was also solid in the air going 14-for-24 with 225 yards passing and one score. Lake Erie's defense was led by Kevin Chapman (11 tackles), Derrick Clement (10 tackles, one sack) and Kenneth Gunn (two tackles, one interception).
