For a brief moment we were about to see a LSU comeback that would comeback from a 25-17 defecit, and beat Ole Miss to stay in the top 10 in the polls. Instead LSU made the biggest boneheaded move in College Football history which leaves to ask Coach Les Myers "What the hell happen coach?"
Let start with this LSU scores the touchdown with 1:13 to go in the game, and fail to convert the 2 point conversion making the score 25-23. Then LSU do an onside kick which they recover successfully bringing new life to the LSU Tigers. What happens in these sequences before the boneheaded move is mind blowing.
Maybe it's the combination of Ole Miss aggressive defense and the bad playing calling by Les Myers left the fans scratching their heads. On 3rd and 18 LSU throws a screen pass that made the Tigers lose 8 yards whch came down to 4th and 26. With 26 seconds left instead of just running the next play, the Tigers were running around with they heads cut off before finally calling a timeout, not knowing it was their last timeout. On 4th down a Hail Mary pass was thrown with 8 seconds to go and tackle was made at the 6 yard line. Now at this point what Coach Myers should have done was get the field goal unit out while the chains are being moved, but instead the offense stayed out there, and with one second left the LSU Quarterback simply spiked the ball into the turf with 00 on the clock, and game over.
My question to Les Myers is this why didn't you wasted your last timeout on 4th down when all they had to do was simply throw the ball as far as they can, and get it withing field goal, if done successfully? In that case it would've been 1st and Goal at the 6 yard with maybe 15 seconds added back to the time, maybe run it up the gut for one play, and with less than 10 seconds call time out. Then you could have brought the field goal unit out, and kicked what could've been a game winning field for the Tigers, instead of looking like a fool.
I guess it was one of those "I thought we had more time theory, but we didn't." Whatever it was coach, game over, and you blew it. I just hope you don't pull another egg out of your rear end against Arkansas this weekend.
