Now that the Bowl season begin, I have to look at my final Bowl Prejection for both the ACC and the SEC, and even though there were only a few that I got right, there were many that I got wrong. I do agree that bowl games have left the days of who deserves to go based on how they finish to now who can kiss the most ass to go to that bowl. Let's start with the ACC Bowl matchup:
Ga. Tech v Iowa in the Orange Bowl should be a great game overall. Ga. Tech beat Clemson fair and square, and deserve that award.
Va. Tech going to the Chick Fil-A Bowl was probably only the few I got right. They played well despite the fact that their starting running back went out with a serious knee injury for the season. They did well enough to earn a second place finish in the Coastal, and a trip to Atlanta.
Florida St. going to the Gator Bowl is the biggest rip off in sports history. I thought Clemson going to the Gator Bowl with a 7-5 record last year was terrible, but Florida St. with a 6-6 record in the Gator Bowl was a real slap in the face to the real fan of the bowl game. Woudl you have invited Florida St to the Gator Bowl If they finished with a 5-7 record?
Miami going to the Champs Sports Bowl was the other pick that I got right. Good News is they're playing in their home state, so fan support shouldn't be a problem.
Clemson in the Music City Bowl is a terrible blow to the Tigers. I had them going to the Gator Bowl this year as a result of their lost to Ga. Tech. On one hand I feel bad for the Tigers not going to Jacksonville despite the face they beat Miami, and Florida St.; But on the other hand, they did do some serious butt kissing to the Gator Bowl Committee last year, and I thought they deserve to play Navy in the Eagle Bank Bowl. Well Clemson let me say this "What goes around, comes around."
North Carolina in the Meinke Car Care Bowl was a gift being that it's in they backyard, and is back in Charlotte for the second year in the row.
Boston College in the Emerald Nut Bowl, well I feel bad for Boston College getting screwed every year by the ACC. First year in the ACC when they didn't win the ACC Title, they wound up in Boise ID, how the hell that happen. My only solution is to send Boston College back to the Big East, and exchange it with West Virgina.
Now in the SEC where Alabama is playing for the BCS Title game and Florida going to the Sugar Bowl, I had the same result only after the top two was right. LSU going to the Capital One Bowl is fitting after Ole Miss lost to Miss State in their rivialry game.
Ole Miss going to the Cotton Bowl for the second straight year is the other bowl I got right, everything goes backwards from there. BTW there's no shame in going to the Cotton Bowl for the second straight year in a row.
Auburn going to the Outback Bowl is an outrage. First off in conference play, they finish 3-5. How in the sam's hell does 3-5 conference play good enough to play in the Outback Bowl. Tennessee with a 4-4 conference record should have been there, not Auburn.
Tennessee in the Chick Fil-A Bowl is a downgrade from Tampa which I felt they deserve to go to for an impressive first season with Lane Kifflin. At least they didn't get robbed like Georgia did.
Kentucky in the Music City Bowl is too genious despite the fact they lost to Tennessee, Arkansas, and South Carolina. Kentucky was in the Music City Bowl two years ago.
Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl was a downgrade from the Music City Bowl I had them projected, but they did have a great season.
Georgia in the Independence Bowl is a big rip off to where I had them going. I felt that Georgia should hav gone to the Chick Fil-A Bowl to play against Va.Tech on New Year's Eve, and not against Texas A&M.
Finally South Carolina in the Papajohns.com Bowl was a big rip off to the kind off season that the Gamecocks had. If they had lost to Clemson, then yeah those Gamecocks would have been better off in the Papajohns.com, but they should have gone to the Liberty Bowl, and not Arkansas. At least they get a pizza party for going to that bowl game.
Well I'm not always right about my predictions, If I was, I would be rich by now.
