As y'all already been told, the Big 10 is planning on an expansion to have a championship game played either in Lucas Oil Field, or Ford Field. Now I've heard talks that teams their interested in ranges from Missouri in the Big 12, to Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and Syracuse in the Big East.
Now no one has mentioned Notre Dame in the mix, despite the fact that 10 yrs earlier Big 10 invited Notre Dame in the conference, but got a fat no as an answer. I believe that headache of College Football can be solved by having Notre Dame in the Big 10, and hears why.
Notre Dame has already played most of the Big 10 teams on their schedule, it wouldn't a big of a problem as say invite other team from other conference to join because these football schedule are made like 4 to 5 years in advance. With Notre Dame, it won't be a long process, just add a few more Big 10 team to their schedule, and they'll be in the conference in less than 2 years.
The reasons why Notre Dame won't go to another conference is that they can go to a BCS Bowl game by simply loss no more than 3 games. Also NBC show their home games on their network, and Notre Dame gets their money from the network. I have to reasons Notre Dame should join the Big 10.
One in the Big 10 Notre Dame would have a great chance to play for the conference title If they finish first in their division, and pending how their record is, they can either play for the Rose Bowl, BCS TItle Game, or an at-large bid. Worst case is they wind up playing in Florida in the Outback, Capital One Bowl, or in some cases play in the Alamo Bowl. Even If they finish outside first, at least their going bowling somewhere.
Also Notre Dame can be expose on ESPN, maybe ABC against Southern Cal. But what about NBC? Well If NBC is willing here's my plan: Get a contract with Big 10 to show Big 10 games on prime time tv. Face it, the only thing you see on NBC on saturday nights are repeats, and that's when I turn to Fox to watch Cops, and America's Most Wanted. Like CBS, with a contract with NBC BIg 10 gets money from the network, and Notre Dame will be in a win win rather they're playing on the road, or at home.
I think Notre Dame is a perfect fit for the Big 10 economically in the long run, and Notre Dame can do themselves a big favor in the long run come post season bowls.
