For the last two months I've heard about the possible expansion for both the Pac 10, and the Big 10 because they're ready to have a conference title game at the end of regualr season. Now it won't go into effect until the 2012-2013 NCAA Football season. I do have some great canadidates for these two conferences.
First the Pac 10, it should expand to 12, maybe 13 teams. Only bad thing is that one division will have 7 teams, and the other with 6. So here's the two, maybe three teams that should be in the Pac 10 come 2012.
1. Fresno St.: great powerhouse in the WAC, but I think can make an impact in the Pac 10. This should work out perfectly for the other californian teams as well.
2. San Jose St.: Since Stanford and San Jose St. are already rivials, why not make them a conference rivials? They may not will alot of games the first few years, but once again the california connection makes alot of sense in the long run.
3. Hawaii: A wild card, but a great fit for the Pac 10; would you rather have conference teams in the Pac 10 fly to Hawaii to save money on flight expense? Think about it; when La Tech flies to Hawaii, I imagine the flight is high as a kite, so economically wise it's a better fit, plus for the fans in the West Coast, watching say Southern Cal play at Hawaii is alot better than saying up at midnight to watch an east coast team play at Hawaii.
Now the Big 10 has 11 teams in it, so I don't know why the hell it's called the Big 10 instead of Big 11. I heard that they can go from at least adding 1 team, to 5 teams at the max. If I had to picked which teams let me say this; don't do the even numbers, either it's 1,3, or 5, but not 2, or 4. So here's my canadiates for the Big 10.
1. Notre Dame: To some it's a long shot because Northe Dame wanna stay independent with NBC covering their home games. But their stubbornness have cost them trips to bowl games which they could have gone even at 6-6 If they had gone to a major conferences. It's in Indiana along with Indiana, Purdue to name a few, plus who wouldn't wanna see Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl? They're a great fit. If they don't get picked, don't be surprise if the Big East Conference offers Notre Dame to be in their conference as a football school.
2. Pittsburgh: Great interstate rivial would begin between Pittsburgh, and Penn St. This would make the division come together in an east-west format.
3. Syracuse: They need a fresh start in a new football conference, but done great in Big East basketball. It would be a hard choice, but since the Big 10 did invite Penn St. to be in their conference years ago, I don't see why they can't go to New York?
4. Missouri: I heard this many times that they wanna offer Missouri to get out of the Big 12 to play in their conference. It's a long shot, but it might work especially If one of the sights for the newly formed Big 10 title game might be held in St. Louis.
5. Boston College: This is a wild card, but I picked this because Boston College is getting tired of getting screwed by the ACC when bowl selection comes. If they don't win the ACC Title game, they wound up at the bottom of the bowl pool; remember when they got sent to Boise? how about this year to San Francisco to play against Southern Cal? I've always said ACC picking Boston College was a big mistake, and this is their chance to redeem themselves by going to the Big 10.
Those are my picks, I'm sure everyone has a difference on an opinion, so let me know who would be the next team in the expansion.
