NEWPORT, RI – The Rutgers University football team was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team BIG EAST football conference, as announced today during the league's annual media day held at the Marriott in Newport, RI. At the event, head coach Greg Schiano and seniors Ryan Hart, Ryan Neill, Tres Moses and Will Gilkison addressed members of the media about the upcoming season.

"We've been here for four years and I think we have made consistent improvement in every area," said Schiano. "I think we are getting very close and are moving forward with building our program. We have a very experienced team with strong senior leadership coming back this year."

"The league is settled now and I think one of the greatest things about this league is that there are going to be some very competitive football games. Every team in this league thinks they can become that dominant team and that is exciting for the players, coaches and the fans. In addition to three new teams in the league, there are also two other teams with new coaches, so this is a very exciting time for BIG EAST football."

"I am very much at peace with where we started, where we are now and where we are going," added Schiano.

Rutgers will open its 2005 home season against Villanova September 10. The Scarlet Knights will return to Rutgers Stadium to host BIG EAST foes Pittsburgh (Sept. 30) and West Virginia (Oct. 8) before welcoming Navy in the annual Homecoming game October 29. The Scarlet Knights round out their home schedule with new conference members South Florida (Nov. 5) and Cincinnati (Nov. 26). Start times will be announced at a later date.
