College football insiders are saying that the Miami Hurricanes and Oklahoma Sooners are preparing to renew their rivalry. According to published reports the Miami Hurricanes would travel to Norman in 2007, and then the Oklahoma Sooners would head down to Miami in 2009.

The proposed two-game series has yet to be formalized, so there is no guarantee that these two college football titans will clash once again. No official contract has been signed, but insiders are saying that this is close to being a done deal.

The Sooners and Hurricanes have an intense history. They started playing against one another in the 70's, but the rivalry really heated up in the 80's when both teams were perennial national championship contenders (as they are today). They played three times between 1985 and 1987, including one classic Orange Bowl matchup that decided the national championship. The two teams have not faced one another since then.
