The Florida State Seminoles had a lot of promise early this spring coming off a season where they finished 9-3 with a Gator Bowl win over West Virginia. Sophomore QB Wyatt Sexton took over the helm for senior Chris Rix in the Clemson game accompanied by a chorus of cheers from Noles' fans. Sexton led the team in passing with 1661 yards, but threw as many TDs as INTs (9). However, he looked to have some momentum heading into 2005.

In what was an amazing twist, in early July Wyatt Sexton was found in the middle of a Tallahassee street yelling about how he was God. He was subsequently taken to the hospital. The media later reported that he had Lyme disease and he would be gone for the season. In comes Redshirt Freshman Xavier Lee (a scrambler) and Redshirt Freshman Drew Weathorford (a pocket passer).

Saying that these guys have talent would be an understatement, but they simply haven't seen enough real game action. They will have the benefit of one of the best running back corps in the country though, in Lorenzo Booker and Leon Washington.

The Florida State Seminole defense wasn't invincible this off-season either. Just as Ernie Sims and A.J. Nicholson were waiting to hear their fate relating off the field troubles, CB Antonio Cromartie went down for the season with a torn ACL. But even without Cromartie, this team will still contend for top defensive honors. Nicholson and Sims have received word they will not be suspended and there is solid talent all around them.

A few months ago I had Florida State in my top 10, but after losing Sexton and Cromartie along with the off the field issues with the linebackers, I just can't see this team being very focused. Bowden will put a good product out on the field, but I see them losing a few due to inexperience on offense.
