Head Coach Bob Stoops has really done a fantastic job with this Oklahoma Sooners team. In his tenure at Oklahoma Stoops has lost only 12 times, and only five since the 2000 season. Last year the Sooners made an appearance in the National Championship game although they ended up getting rolled by a stellar USC team. However, heading into the 2005 season the Oklahoma Sooners lose a lot of experience and they may have to ride the backs of their talented backfield.

Last season freshman Adrian Peterson ran for 1925 yards (a school record) and 15 touchdowns. Those numbers landed him a seat at the Heisman ceremonies. He finished #2 in the voting. Behind him on the depth chart is the very talented senior Kejuan Jones, who should see some solid action even with Peterson back. WR Travis Wilson, who led the team with 11 receiving TDs last year, is the only top receiver to return. The O-line looks less experienced and losing a Heisman winning QB will hurt as well.

The defense returns only four starters from last year so there will be a considerable lack of experience here. Second team Big 12 LB Rufus Alexander returns, but he will need the supporting cast around him to step up.

The Oklahoma Sooners look to be down this year. Losing so much experience on both sides of the ball will hurt. If Adrian Peterson and company can come close to last year's numbers Oklahoma may have a shot at a Big 12 South title, but I just feel as though it will be very difficult to maintain Big 12 prominence.
