Thursday night will usher in a new era in Marshall Thundering Herd football, as Mark Snyder takes the reins from longtime coach Bob Pruett. 2005 will also mark Marshall's debut in Conference USA after dominating the MAC for eight seasons. The Thundering Herd will be led by star running back Ahmed Bradshaw, who gained 462 yards as a backup last year, averaging almost 5 yards per carry. Marshall lost many of their best players due to graduation, namely QB Stan Hill. Jimmy Skinner will be making his first career start for the Herd.

The Division I-AA William & Mary Tribe is coming off his best season in 2004, setting schools record with 11 wins and finishing the year ranked #3 nationally. Under head coach Jimmy Laylock, who is entering his 26th season at the helm, the Tribe has finished with a winning record in 18 of the last 22 years. Sophomore quarterback Mike Potts will make his first career start on Thursday night. The last time William & Mary defeated a division I-A team was in 1998, when they upset Temple 45-38 in Philadelphia.
