The Northwestern State Leathernecks are visiting the Louisiana-Monroe Indians tonight. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 PM EST.

Division 1-AA powerhouse Northwestern State renews it's rivalry with Louisiana-Monroe Thursday night. These two schools are close in proximity, only 110 miles separates these two schools, and they've engaged in some heated games in the past. The Demons are ranked as high as #7 in the preseason I-AA polls, and defeated Monroe in the last meeting between the two clubs, 13-10 in 2003. Northwestern State will be led by their powerful defense that returns nine starters.

Even though Louisiana-Monroe is now in Division 1-A, the Northwestern State game remains the school's biggest rivalry. The Indians just fell short of enjoying their first winning season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. After beginning the year 0-4, they rallied during the second half of the year to finish 5-6. Head coach Charlie Weatherbie's club is predicted to finish 5th in the Sun Belt, but hopes are high that they can exceed expectations, as they return 19 starters from last year's squad. Their main cog is quarterback Steven Jyles who threw for 2,322 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2004.
