The Notre Dame Fighting Irish pulled yet another huge upset this week. This time it was the Michigan Wolverines that fell victim to Charlie Weis' revamped Notre Dame squad.

Quarterback Brady Quinn led the way going 19 of 30 for 140 yards and two touchdowns. One went to Jeff Samardzija and the other went to Rhema McKnight. RB Darius Walker added 107 yards on 26 carries. However, it was the defense that one this game for the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame's defensive unit was hitting anything that moved and was in a ball hawking mood all day long. They forced two turnovers (1 INT, 1 FUM) and allowed Michigan to convert only five of their 18 third down attempts. They were especially sting when the Wolverines entered the red zone. Michigan came up empty on all three of their redzone possessions. They were intercepted once, fumbled once, and turned the ball over on downs once.

In the fourth quarter, with Notre Dame leading 17-3, Chad Henne connected with Mario Manningham on a 25-yard TD pass to put the Wolverines within seven. Michigan got the ball back once more with about two minutes left to play but could not get anything going. The Notre Dame defense forced them to turn the ball over on downs, allowing the Fighting Irish to simply run out the clock.
