Coming off the emotional high of upsetting Auburn the previous week, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets struggled at home, before finally putting away North Carolina 27-21.

Georgia Tech grabbed the lead early on after Reggie Ball hit running back P.J. Daniels for a five-yard touchdown toss. Daniels finished with 103 yards on the ground on 21 carries. Despite the success of the running game, coach Chan Gailey decided to put the ball in the air 47 times to take advantage of a weak Tar Heel secondary.

Ball completed 24 of those 47 passes for 325 yards and two touchdowns.

Late in the game, the Yellow Jackets defense held tough, as Gerris Wilkinson sacked North Carolina quarterback Matt Baker. And on the last play of the game, Baker was intercepted by Tech defensive back Dawan Landry to preserve the hard fought win.
