The Ohio State Buckeyes gave it everything they had but ended up falling short against the Texas Longhorns 25-22. Linebacker A.J. Hawk had a huge game, collecting double-digit tackles, several sacks, and an interception. He shadowed Vince Young all night long and held him in check for the most part.

The quarterback duo of Troy Smith and Justin Zwick were steady and effective, but settled for too many field goals and not enough touchdowns. Smith was 5 of 11 for 78 yards and threw a perfect touchdown strike to Santonio Holmes. He added 27 yards on the ground. Zwick was 9 of 15 for 67 yards but could not cash in with a touchdown of any kind. He also coughed up the football late in the fourth quarter, essentially ending any hopes of a late comeback. RB Antonio Pittman had a solid day running the ball. He finished with 74 yards on 17 carries. Other than the Zwick fumble, the Ohio State Buckeyes did a great job protecting the football on offense.

The Buckeyes defense was strong all night long, but was foiled by super human effort of Vince Young. Although young was sacked multiple times and threw two interceptions, he compiled over 350 yards of total offense and threw for two touchdowns. His final touchdown pass came with just two minutes and change left to play in the fourth quarter and put the Longhorns up for good.
