Ever since coming to the ACC, the Boston College Eagles have been looking for respect. They earned some last week with a win over Clemson, and they have a chance to earn some more next weekend against Virginia. But first, they need to beat the Ball State Cardinals in a 1:00pm game at Chestnut Hill, Mass. this Saturday.

After falling to Florida State in their first ever ACC game, the former Big East school rebounded with a 16-13 overtime win over the Tigers this past Saturday, and they did it without their starting quarterback. Senior QB Quinton Porter, who has completed on 72% of his 82 pass attempts for 589 yards and five touchdowns on the season, injured his ankle against the Seminoles. He will likely return in time for the game against the Cavaliers, but as for this week, it looks as though sophomore QB Matt Ryan will get his second consecutive start. Despite throwing a pair of interceptions against Clemson, Ryan held his own, throwing for more that 200 yards and running for a score.

He should have little trouble picking apart a porous Ball State defense. The Cardinals are allowing an average of 530 yards and 53 points thus far in 2005, and they have been outscored 159-34 in three losses this season. Their last loss was a 63-3 blowout at the hands of the Auburn Tigers, a game in which they allowed 572 yards of total offense and an average of 10 yards per play. Against a Boston College offense that has averaged more than 400 yards per game against a couple of much better defensive units, the Cardinals could be in for a very long day.
