After getting spanked by Ohio State up in Columbus a week ago, the Iowa Hawkeyes returned home and took care of Illinois 35-7 led by tight end Ed Hinkle's two touchdowns. He caught a scoring throw from quarterback Drew Tate and also scored on a 20-yard reverse.

Iowa jumped on top 7-0 early on a three-yard run by Marcus Schnoor on their very first drive of the game. Hinkle's first touchdown put them up 14-0. Great play from the defense and special teams assured them of an easy win.
Leading the Iowa passing attack, Tate went 17-of-22 for 175 yards with two scoring tosses and one interception. He was much more efficient today, as he had more time to stand in the pocket than last weekend against the Buckeyes. Running back Albert Young chipped in with 102 yards on the ground on 13 attempts.

The Illinois Fighting Illini were looking to bounce back after an embarrassing 61-14 shellacking at the hands of Michigan State last Saturday. They had their chances early, but came up empty on four different scoring opportunities in the first half. Kicker Jason Reda had two field goal attempts blocked and missed another attempt, a 20-yard chip shot.

Another drive was stopped when quarterback Tim Brasic was intercepted at the Iowa two yard line after driving downfield. He did throw a one-yard score to E.B Halsey in the third quarter to cut the Iowa lead to 14 points, but Illinois would not threaten again.
