Quarterback Matt Ryan, starting for the second straight game for Quinton Porter, ran for two scores and threw for another one to lead the #21 Boston College Eagles to a 38-0 victory over overmatched Ball State. Ryan has been pressed into duty after Porter hurt his ankle two weeks ago in the team's lone loss, against Florida State. He passed for 206 yards on 21-of-29 passing and ran for another 39 yards on six carries.

Ball State, who was without 15 players due to an NCAA-imposed suspension, tried some trickery on the opening kickoff, which backfired. They attempted an onside kick, but the Eagles recovered, which led to a 14-yard touchdown run by running back L.V. Whitworth two plays later. He finished with 66 yards on only eight carries.

Another Cardinals miscue led to a touchdown on the next possession, as the Boston College Eagles blocked a punt. Seven plays later, Ryan found the end zone for the first of three times with a 10-yard scamper.

Ball State was only able to get in scoring position once, and that was halted by a missed 32-yard field goal attempt that preserved the shutout.
