The Maryland Terrapins upset the 19th ranked Virginia Cavaliers 45-33. The Cavaliers actually held a slim 26-24 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Maryland reeled off three 4th quarter touchdowns to put the game away.

The Maryland Terrapins were led by the three-pronged attack of QB Sam Hollenbach, RB Lance Ball, and WR Danny Melendez. Hollenbach threw for 321 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 25 of 33 passing, Ball rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns and Melendez caught 9 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown. RB Keon Lattimore added two short touchdowns including a 1-yard run that iced the game and proved to be the final scoring play.

In the 2nd quarter it looked like the Virginia Cavaliers would cruise to an easy victory early on. DB Chris Cook intercepted one Hollenbach's passes and returned it for a 30-yard score to give Virginia a 14-7 lead in the second quarter. The two teams would trade scores for most of the 2nd and 3rd quarter, but then Maryland pulled away in the final quarter. The Cavaliers were led by QB Marques Hagans. He threw for 270 yards on 17 of 35 passing and was the team's leading rusher with 55 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.
