The Tennessee Volunteers had little trouble dispatching the Mississippi Rebels. However, the star-studded Vols offense once again had trouble manufacturing points. Tennessee jumped out to an early 14-0 lead but only managed 13 points in the final three quarters. When you factor in that one of their touchdowns came on a Jonathan Wade interception return you get a good sense for just how much trouble the Vols are having on offense.

The Tennessee Volunteers were led by Rick Clausen and Gerald Riggs Jr. Clausen had a steady performance, throwing for 206 yards on 18 of 35 passing but had no passing touchdowns. Riggs rushed for 125 yards on 26 carries and did manage to get into the endzone once. However, his longest run of the day went for only 13 yards.

The Mississippi Rebels also had problems on offense. The Volunteers defense held them to only 50 rushing yards and that lack of production on the ground forced the Rebels into too many obvious passing downs. Tennessee capitalized by forcing two interceptions including the one that was run back for a touchdown.

The Rebels were led by speedy RB Mico McSwain. He rushed for 70 yards on 13 carries and scored Mississippi's lone touchdown. The rest of the team combined for -20 yards on 12 carries. QB Michael Spurlock threw for 200 yards on 18 of 37 passing but also had the two costly interceptions.
