Even though the Nebraska Cornhuskers were 3-0 coming into Saturday's game against the 23rd ranked Iowa State Cyclones, the local press and fans haven't shown much confidence in the offense. Junior Zac Taylor gets a lot of criticism from analysts who think he's not the "big play" kind of quarterback that Nebraska needs. Well, he answered that criticism with the best game of his career in Nebraska's 27-20 win over Iowa State in double overtime. The win pushed Nebraska's record to 4-0.

Taylor's play was far from perfect, but he completed passes when they counted and in the end he got the job done. He was 36-of-55 for 431 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the game-winner to RB Cory Ross. Ross had 8 catches for 131 yards on the day, most of those coming on a 70-yard touchdown play in the third quarter. He also added a rushing TD, one of the few successful running plays that Nebraska executed. The Cornhuskers gained only 35 yards on the ground in 25 attempts.

The Iowa State Cyclones came up short in their bid to tie the game in their possession during the second overtime. Quarterback Bret Meyer failed to connect with his receivers on three passing attempts, and he was stopped for no gain on a rushing attempt. Meyer finished the game with 317 yards and one TD. Running back Greg Coleman ran for 65 yards and a score on 20 carries and WR Austin Flynn had a 100-yard day for the Cyclones, who fall to 3-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Big 12.
