The 14th ranked California Golden Bears scored a touchdown in each quarter and held the Arizona Wildcats to just 222 total yards in a 28-0 victory Saturday night. California improves to 5-0 on the season, while Arizona falls to 1-3. This is the first time since 1996 that Cal has started 5-0.

Freshman RB Marshawn Lynch was back in action for the Golden Bears after being out with a broken finger sustained against Washington on September 10. Lynch gained 110 yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown in the first quarter. Justin Forsett, who did an excellent job filling in for Lynch as the primary back in the last 2 games, added 74 yards of his own.

Quarterback Joe Ayoob was 14-of-20 for 137 yards and two TDs. He also scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter to put the Bears up 14-0.

The Arizona Wildcats' offense never got going. Key penalties and an inability to execute plays in the red zone hurt them in this game. The best illustration of their red zone problems came in the third quarter when Arizona had a first-and-goal from the 2 yard line. Two failed rushing attempts and two incomplete passes later, it was California's ball again and Arizona still had zero points on the board.

Quarterback Richard Kovalcheck completed 18 of 35 passes for 169 yards and was picked off 3 times. Mike Bell led the Wildcats in rushing with 60 yards on 19 attempts.
