Here are a few Texas A&M Aggies news and notes as they head to Manhattan to battle with Kansas State Saturday afternoon:

-The environment Texas A&M faces this week is similar to the one they saw two weeks ago in Boulder against Colorado. To help better prepare the team for the hostile environment, the Aggies coaches forced the team to practice with music blaring in the background. The offense had trouble hearing quarterback Reggie McNeal barking out the signals during that game, especially after they fell behind 21-0 early on against the Buffaloes.

-Punter Justin Brantley is fifth in the nation with a 45.8 average per kick. More impressively, he is well on pace to eclipse the school record for a freshman, held by NFL All-Pro Shane Lechler. In his first year with the Aggies in 1996, Lechler averaged 42.7 yards per attempt.

-Texas A&M has lost both of their road outings this year, and are only 2-10 under head coach Dennis Franchione away from home. But on the bright side, they have defeated Kansas State in their last four meetings, including last year's 42-30 decision at College Station.

-Freshman running back Jovorskie Lane, who had a breakout performance in last weeks 62-23 win over Oklahoma State, is listed at 235 pounds in the team's media guide. But, he's actually closer to 265 or 270. Teammate Jason Carter has compared him to former Aggie Ja'Mar Toombs, but says Lane is faster.

-Speaking of freshmen making an impact, I guess the jury is no longer out on the blocking abilities of tight end Martellus Bennett. He had 16 knockdowns last weekend against Oklahoma State. Ouch!
