At Camp Randall Stadium in Madison Wisconsin, the #19 Wisconsin Badgers continued their quest for a Big Ten title as they defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 31-20. Wisconsin remained in the Big Ten hunt despite spotty offense and sloppy special teams.

The Badgers' offense owes the defense for this one. The usually potent Wisconsin running attack was virtually neutralized as early season Heisman candidate, Brian Calhoun was held to just 65 yards rushing. Calhoun did manage to catch five passes for 81 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Wisconsin did most of their offensive damage in the air. Junior quarterback, John Stocco managed 217 yards through the air for two touchdowns to just one pick. The Badgers defense was the star, though. Wisconsin had 146 return yards on three interceptions of Purdue freshman quarterback, Curtis Painter, who replaced starter Brandon Kirsch in the lineup.

Purdue, in dropping this game, has given Joe Tiller his first 5 game losing streak in his career. Painter's young mistakes were costly. At one point, with Purdue having the Badgers down 13-10, Painter threw an interception to Wisconsin's Rogers who returned it for a touchdown. Painter finished with 208 yards passing, one touchdown, and three interceptions. Purdue's 2005 slide continued, making them one of the biggest disappointments in the nation this season. Purdue played catch up all afternoon, and despite keeping it close never really threatened late in the game.

The Purdue Boilermakers (2-5, 0-4 Big Ten) continues to hold the bottom of the Big Ten and will travel to #12 Penn State, whose success is as much a surprise as Purdue's difficulties. The Wisconsin Badgers (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) continues to fight for a Big Ten title and will travel to Illinois next week to face the Illini.
