After Saturday, you can call it the Big One plus 11. No. 2 Texas continued its domination of Big 12 competition with a 52-17 rout of No. 10 Texas Tech, as Vince Young remained neck-and-neck with Southern Cal's Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush in the Heisman Trophy race.

True, Young did tarnish his resume a bit by throwing two interceptions in the early going. But the junior QB wound up with 237 yards passing and 45 more rushing, accounting for three touchdowns as Texas improved to 7-0, 4-0 in league play.

Although Mike Leach's potent Red Raider spread offense gained 471 yards, 369 of them on passes from QB Cody Hodges (second nationally in total offense), Longhorn defensive coordinator Gene Chizik fed Tech a steady diet of blitzes and disguised coverages that kept Hodges off-balance when it counted.

Texas Tech (6-1, 3-1) managed to take a 7-3 lead in the second quarter on a short touchdown pass from Hodges to RB Taurean Henderson, the all-time NCAA leader in receptions by a running back. Then Quan Cosby of Texas brought most of the soldout crowd at Royal-Memorial Stadium in Austin to its feet with a 38-yard punt return, prefacing a short touchdown blast by 270-pound freshman Henry Melton, and Mack Brown's team scored on its next five possessions to put the game away.

Young hit Billy Pittman with a 75-yard scoring strike in the third quarter, and junior RB Selvin Young -- starting over injured freshman star Jamaal Charles -- scored twice for the Longhorns, who have won eight straight against Top 25 opposition.

It was the first time Texas and Texas Tech had both been ranked in the top 10 this late in the season. And with conference also-rans Oklahoma State, Baylor, Kansas and Texas A&M left on the schedule, the Longhorns may have cleared the last major hurdle to an unbeaten regular season.
