The visiting Auburn Tigers gave the LSU Tigers all they could handle before finally falling to the Bayou Bengals 20-17. RB Joseph Addai paced LSU with 105 yards on 24 carries, but it was Auburn RB Kenny Irons that stole the show. He gained an astonishing 218 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries. Unfortunately, a career day was not enough to lift his team over the LSU Tigers.

LSU's Skyler Green opened up the scoring with an electrifying 66-yard punt return for a touchdown, but Auburn responded with a field goal and a Kenny Irons 74-yard touchdown run. The two teams then exchanged touchdowns to make the score 17-14 in Auburn's favor. A late LSU field goal sent the game into overtime, and in the extra session, LSU converted their field goal attempt but Auburn's John Vaughn hit the left upright and missed his 39-yard field goal.

The two highly touted starting quarterbacks had relatively quiet evenings. Auburn Tigers starting quarterback Brandon Cox threw for 221 yards completing on 16 of 40 attempts. LSU Tigers quarterback JaMarcus Russell threw for 190 yards on 16 of 33 passing.

LSU improves to 5-1 and 4-1 in the SEC. Auburn drops to 5-2 and 3-1 in the SEC.
