In a battle between a pair of five-win teams clinging to bowl aspirations, Oklahoma grabbed a big lead in the first quarter, but had to hang on late to defeat Texas A&M 36-30, assuring themselves a birth in the post-season and forcing the Aggies to beat no. 2 Texas if they want to keep playing into December.

Oklahoma Sooners running back Adrian Peterson, who has been hampered by injuries for much of the season, scored on two early runs to stake Oklahoma to a 14-0 lead. He finished with 136 yards on 28 carries, looking more like the pre-season Heisman candidate he was expected to be, and Rhett Bomar had a career-afternoon throwing for 299 yards and a score while completing 20-of-28.

His touchdown toss to Garrett Hartley, a 15-yard hook up, extended the Sooners lead to 21-0 less than nine minutes into the game. Then Texas A&M battled back.

Reggie McNeal answered his signal-calling counterpart with a 12-yard touchdown throw to Martellus Bennett to make it 21-7. McNeal continued his inconsistent play though, going 12-of-29 for 159 yards, but did toss two touchdowns and was intercepted once.

Both of the Texas A&M Aggies tailbacks added scores on the day, as Courtney Lewis rambled in from five yards on a McNeal pass, and freshman Jovorskie Lane added a one-yard plunge to cut the Oklahoma lead to 30--24 heading into the fourth quarter. Lewis finished with 146 yards on 15 carries.

However, the Aggies could get no closer as they had to drives stalled and had to settle for a pair of Todd Pegram field goals to end the scoring.
