The Iowa State Cyclones kept their hopes for a division crown alive. The Colorado Buffaloes, ranked 22nd in the nation, came into Ames looking to secure their own division title, but the Cyclones' defense made sure Colorado wouldn't celebrate on their home turf.

Cyclones defenders Brent Curvey and Steve Paris almost outscored the Buffaloes by themselves. Paris scored on a fumble return for a touchdown for 66 yards, after Tim Dobbins knocked the ball loose. Defensive tackle Curvey, who weighs over 300 pounds, returned an interception for 66 yards and a touchdown on a screen pass attempt by Buffaloes quarterback Joel Klatt. Curvey's score sealed the game for Iowa State, who can still earn the chance to tie for a division title with a win against Kansas and a Colorado loss to Nebraska. Klatt was able to move the Colorado Buffaloes offense but only found the end zone once. Final score: Iowa State 30, Colorado 16.
