The Virginia Tech Hokies (8-1, 5-1) head to Charlottesville to take on the Virginia Cavaliers (6-3, 3-3) in an ACC battle, coined the Commonwealth Cup, that can be seen on ESPN at noon.

Coming off an embarrassing performance in their last game two weeks ago against the Miami Hurricanes a 27-7 pummeling, the Virginia Tech Hokies are eager to get back on the field. The Hokies had an extra week to think about the loss, and they still have a bitter taste in their mouth. They hope to take it out on their in-state rival the Virginia Cavaliers.

In the beat down by Miami, Hokies quarterback Marcus Vick had by far his worst game of the season completing 8/22 passes for 90 yards and 2 interceptions. Vick also had 4 fumbles in a forgettable game. The Hokies offense was stymied all night by the Hurricanes, going a putrid 2/12 on third downs, and scoring its lone points, a meaningless 2 yard touchdown run by Vick, when already down by 27.

Coming off of bye weeks the Hokies are 21-11 under coach Frank Beamer, and 1-0 this season, defeating Maryland 28-9.

Conversely the Virginia Cavaliers have won back-to-back games, which saw them defeat Temple, and then 24th ranked Georgia Tech. In their last game, a 27-17 win, Cavaliers quarterback Marques Hagans played terrific. Hagans completed 21 of 29 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown. Cavaliers running back Wali Lundy had his second best game of the year, rushing 23 times for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Virginia Tech leads the career series with a 44-37-5 record. The Hokies have won five of the past 6 meetings between the teams, yet Hokies head coach Frank Beamer is still only 9-9 against the Cavs in his career. Over the past 21 games the series has been ultra competitive with the Hokies holding a slight one game advantage, going 11-10.
